Lip Augmentation
Thin or wrinkled lips can be caused by the aging process, lifestyle habits or simply genetics. Thin lips can detract from the harmony of your facial features, making you appear older than you are. Full lips are often thought of as a trademark of youth and beauty. Lip augmentation using injectable fillers can help create fuller, shapelier lips without surgery.*
Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Jennifer Harrington specializes in facial enhancement treatments, including lip enhancement. During your initial pre-treatment consultation, she’ll work with you to determine the best approach for your needs.
Harrington + Associates Plastic Surgery has helped women and men from Minneapolis and beyond with surgical and nonsurgical treatments for the face and body. Contact us online or call our Plymouth office today at 651-290-7600 for more information about lip fillers, including pricing.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Lip Enhancement?
Nearly anyone who would like fuller lips can be a good candidate for lip augmentation. Some of the most common reasons to consider getting lip fillers include:*
- Age has caused lips to thin out
- Lifestyle habits, such as smoking or sun damage, have caused lips to wrinkle
- Lips are asymmetrical
- Lips are flat or lack definition
Your Lip Augmentation Treatment
Lip augmentation is performed using injectable fillers. Fillers made with hyaluronic acid, such as Restylane®, Restylane® Lyft or Restylane® Silk, tend to produce the best results for lip enhancement.* Your physician assistant will work with you to determine the best filler for your specific goals.
All lip injections are performed by our certified physician assistant or certified plastic surgery nurse. Your injector may use a topical numbing agent prior to your injections, then carefully inject the temporary dermal filler into specific places in your lips. You may feel a slight pinch, but most patients are generally comfortable during the procedure.* The treatment itself usually only takes about 30 minutes.*
Depending on your appearance goals, Dr. Harrington may suggest additional treatments to complement your lip augmentation. Many patients choose to have additional injectables scheduled at the same time.
Lip Enhancement Downtime
Because lip augmentation is a noninvasive treatment, it requires virtually no downtime.* You may experience some mild bruising, swelling or tenderness around the lips during the first 24 to 72 hours.* Some basic makeup can cover up slight bruising, and most people return to their normal routine immediately following their appointment.*
Your results should take into effect quickly, though fillers can take up to 5 days to settle into place.* Be careful not to massage your lips or get a facial during the first few days after your appointment. Lip injections can last up to 6 months, and many patients schedule repeat treatments as part of their regular beauty maintenance regimen.*
While complications associated with dermal fillers are few, it’s important to discuss any potential risks with your injector. If you notice any bumps, sudden increases in swelling or sharp pain, notify our office.
