Injectable Fillers
As we age, our facial fat and tissue tends to thin out. Our skin also slows down its production of collagen and elastin, the proteins that make our skin soft, firm and resilient. Injectable fillers are FDA-approved to correct age-related loss of volume, as well as temporarily correct deep lines and creases.*
Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Jennifer Harrington believes that no two people have exactly the same needs when it comes to facial rejuvenation. That’s why she takes the time during each consultation to understand your specific cosmetic concerns and develop the right approach to help you address your goals.
Harrington + Associates Plastic Surgery has helped women and men from throughout the Minneapolis-St. Paul area with dermal fillers.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Injectable Fillers?
Women and men of almost any age can be great candidates for facial fillers. Some of the most common reasons to consider injectables include:*
- Deep creases in the nasolabial folds create an aged look
- You wish to get rid of laugh lines
- Thin or wrinkled lips detract from your appearance
- A sagging brow or sunken cheeks make you appear tired or old
- You have deep facial wrinkles
- Your facial features are asymmetrical
Types of Facial Fillers
A wide variety of injectable fillers are available for people interested in facial enhancement without surgery. During your consultation, Dr. Harrington will help you understand the advantages of each type of filler and make a recommendation based on your needs.
JUVÉDERM®
JUVÉDERM fillers like VOLUMA XC and VOLBELLA are injectable HA fillers. VOLUMA XC is FDA-approved to correct loss of volume in the mid-face, while VOLBELLA is ideal for lip enhancement, including smoothing away lip lines. Individual experiences vary, but results can last for up to 2 years.*
RADIESSE®
RADIESSE® is a dermal filler made of calcium-based microspheres suspended in a water-based gel. This unique formulation combines the benefits of a temporary dermal filler with long-term results.*
Restylane®
Restylane® fillers come in a variety of types, including Restylane Silk, Restylane Lyft, Restylane Defyne, Restylane Refyne and Restylane Kysse. Restylane is made with hyaluronic acid and is FDA-approved for use as a cheek filler and a wrinkle filler. Restylane products may also be recommended for patients interested in
lip augmentation. Individual results vary, but Restylane fillers can last for up to 1 year.*
Your Injectable Filler Treatment
All facial filler injections are performed by our certified physician assistants. Before your treatment, your injector may apply a topical numbing cream to minimize any discomfort, although most patients report that they are very comfortable during the entire procedure. The product is then injected into the specific areas of concern. The exact number of injections and length of the procedure depends upon your needs. Some fillers, are usually injected over two separate appointments.
Depending on your cosmetic goals, Dr. Harrington may suggest additional treatments to complement your facial filler results. BOTOX® Cosmetic is commonly used in conjunction with injectable fillers to treat crow’s feet or frown lines. Many people also choose skin rejuvenation treatments, such as SkinPen®.

Dermal Filler Downtime
Injectable fillers are noninvasive treatments that require no downtime. However, you should avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area for at least 24 hours after your appointment. You may experience some mild redness, swelling or bruising, which should fade over the coming days and can be concealed with makeup.*
Depending on the type of filler used, your results may take into effect right after your appointment or they may develop over the following week. Because the effects of injectable fillers are temporary, most men and women schedule routine touchups throughout the year.*
It’s important to discuss any risks or complications associated with the filler of your choosing with Dr. Harrington or her staff prior to your treatment. If you notice any severe bruising or swelling, notify our office.
