Contrary to popular belief, cellulite cannot be reduced by losing weight. This common “cottage cheese” look also isn’t brought on by weight gain. In fact, these dimples on the thighs and buttocks, particularly in women, are caused by restrictive tissue bands that group fat cells together.
We are specialists in treating cellulite and offer three modern treatment options to find the best fit for your appearance goals:
- Cellfina® loosens the restrictive bands that cause cellulite through a combination of suction and manual cutting of the bands using a targeted, non-surgical method.
- Profound® RF treatments use radiofrequency energy to create microscopic injuries deep in the skin, stimulating cell and tissue regeneration for smoother thighs.
- QWO® is the first and only FDA-approved injectable for treating moderate to severe cellulite in the buttocks.
One of the reasons Dr. Jennifer Harrington is known as one of the best female plastic surgeons is because she takes pride in offering treatments she has tried herself, and loves the results. During your consultation, she’ll explain exactly how cellulite is formed and how each cellulite treatment we offer works, helping you feel comfortable and confident about your decision.
Harrington + Associates Plastic Surgery has helped women from the Twin Cities and beyond with non-surgical cellulite treatments. Contact us online or call our Plymouth office today at 651-290-7600 for more information about cellulite reduction, including pricing.
Who Is a Good Candidate for Cellulite Reduction?
Most people who are unhappy with the appearance of cellulite on their bodies can be excellent candidates for at least one of the cellulite treatments we offer. Some of the most common reasons to consider cellulite reduction include:
- The appearance of dimpled skin on the thighs or buttocks creates embarrassment
- You avoid wearing certain clothes or bathing suits due to a “cottage cheese” look
- The appearance of cellulite makes you look older or less fit than you really are
What your treatment looks like depends on which cellulite reduction technique is best for you and which areas of the body you are treating.
During your procedure, we will inject a local anesthetic solution directly under the skin of the treatment area in order to minimize discomfort. A suction cup will then be placed over the area affected by cellulite. The purpose of the suction cup is to stabilize the skin and tissue for maximum precision. Finally, a fine needle is used to cut individual bands of fibrous tissue directly underneath the skin, allowing the underlying fat cells to spread out.
Before your Profound treatment, we will apply a topical numbing cream to the treatment area, followed by an injection of numbing medicine. Then, the Profound device will be passed over your thighs. The device contains five pairs of microneedles with electrodes delivering radiofrequency energy directly into your skin and tissue.
QWO is a completely non-surgical treatment, with injections taking 10 minutes or less. We’ll prep your skin in the treatment area, administer the injections, and you’ll be ready to continue on with your day. The injections are formulated with special enzymes called collagenases that are designed to target the structural causes of cellulite under the skin.
We may recommend additional treatments to make the most of your cellulite reduction results. Many people choose to combine cellulite treatments with body contouring procedures such as liposuction or its non-surgical alternative, CoolSculpting®. Women getting a mommy makeover also commonly include cellulite treatments in their cosmetic plan.
Cellulite Treatment Recovery & Results
While all of the cellulite reduction methods we offer do not require surgery, they each have a different mix of what to expect after treatment.
You will not be required to take any time away from work or your normal routine. Patients who experience mild discomfort following their cellulite treatment may wish to use over-the-counter pain medications. We may suggest that you wear compression garments during the first week following your cellulite reduction procedure to minimize swelling. Some light bruising of the treated areas is normal for a few days. Because Cellfina uses fine needles instead of incisions to treat cellulite, the procedure should not result in scarring.
Many people begin to see the results of Cellfina after only 3 days. Your results should be noticeable after 3 months and may continue to develop and improve for up to 1 year following your treatment.
Like Cellfina treatments, you can return to your normal routine immediately following a Profound cellulite treatment. Expect to have some redness and mild soreness on the treated area, but these side effects should fade within the first day. Also during the first day or two, it’s important to avoid strenuous activities. You may see temporary bruising or swelling, which should fade within 1 to 5 days of your treatment.
Your results should gradually develop over the following several weeks and months. You should notice your skin developing a smoother, firmer texture. Your cellulite should slowly start to diminish after treatment.
You can proceed with your day’s activities right after a QWO treatment. Common side effects after treatment include bruising or discoloration where the injections were administered; redness, hardness or swelling of the treated area; and lingering discomfort for a day or two.
Most patients being treated with QWO will need a total of 3 treatment visits over the course of 2 months to see the best results. About a month after your final treatment, your peak results will be visible.
Complications associated with the cellulite treatments we offer are rare. It’s important to discuss any potential risks with us prior to treatment and contact us immediately if you notice sudden swelling accompanied by sharp pain or anything else out of the ordinary.
