BOTOX® Cosmetic & Dysport®

BOTOX® Cosmetic & Dysport® img 1One of the most common effects of the aging process is fine wrinkling of the facial skin. Dynamic wrinkles are among the most prominent types of wrinkles and result from repeated facial movements. These wrinkles usually appear as horizontal lines beside the eyes, also known as crow’s feet, and vertical lines between the brow’s, known as frown lines. BOTOX® Cosmetic and Dysport® are FDA-approved to temporarily improve the appearance of dynamic wrinkles.

Dr. Jennifer Harrington is a board-certified plastic surgeon who has extensive experience in facial rejuvenation, including Dysport® and BOTOX® injections. During your consultation, she’ll help you determine the best product for your needs and explain the results you can expect.

Harrington + Associates Plastic Surgery has helped men and women from the Twin Cities with the help of injectables. We are just a short drive from St. Cloud, Sartell, Wayzata, Minnetonka and other surrounding towns, and can provide high-quality cosmetic care.

Who Is a Good Candidate for BOTOX® or Dysport®?

Men and women of almost any age can be excellent candidates for BOTOX® or Dysport® injections. Some of the most common reasons to consider starting BOTOX® or its popular alternative, Dysport®, include:

  • Crow’s feet, or lines beside the eyes, cause a tired or aged appearance
  • Frown lines make you look worried or irritated
  • A dimpled or protruding chin throws your features off-balance
  • You are unhappy with horizontal forehead lines

The Difference between BOTOX® and Dysport®

BOTOX® and Dysport® are both temporary injectable products made with botulinum toxin. When injected, this toxin can stops specific muscles from contracting, which in turn temporarily improves dynamic wrinkles caused by repetitive movements.

While both products can be highly effective for short-term treatment of dynamic wrinkles, Dysport® can take into effect slightly faster than BOTOX®. However, Dysport® may also spread after injection more than BOTOX® does, making BOTOX® a more ideal choice for very specific areas. Dr. Harrington and her staff will help you decide on the best option for your specific concerns.

Your BOTOX® or Dysport® Treatment

BOTOX® Cosmetic & Dysport® img 2All BOTOX® and Dysport® injections are performed by our trained injectors. Prior to injection, your injector may use a topical numbing agent to maximize your comfort during the procedure. The product is then injected into specific areas of the face that contribute to your wrinkles or dimpling. For most patients, the crow’s feet and frown lines are the most popular treatment areas for BOTOX® or Dysport®. The treatment itself only takes 15 to 30 minutes.

Depending on your appearance goals, Dr. Harrington may recommend additional treatments to complement your BOTOX® results, such as dermal fillers. Other facial rejuvenation procedures, such as SkinPen®, are used on the skin’s surface rather than through injections.

BOTOX® and Dysport® Downtime

BOTOX® Cosmetic & Dysport® img 3One of the most appealing aspects of BOTOX® and Dysport® injections is that they require no downtime. In fact, these “lunchtime treatments” can fit right into a break in your schedule and you can return to your routine as soon as you leave our office. Some people experience mild swelling, pinkness or bruising around the injection sites, which can be hidden with makeup. You should refrain from rubbing or massaging the treated areas for at least 24 hours after your treatment to avoid spreading the product.

Although individual results vary, most patients see their results within the following 2 to 7 days. The effects of BOTOX® and Dysport® are temporary, typically lasting for 3 to 4 months. Many of our patients schedule routine injections 3 times a year.

Complications associated with injectables are rare, but it’s important to understand any associated risks prior to your treatment. Dr. Harrington or her staff will ensure that you’re aware of any possible adverse effects. If you notice any sudden and prolonged swelling, contact our office.
