Facial Liposuction

Excess fat concentrated around the cheeks, chin or neck can obscure your true face shape hiding underneath and make you appear heavier than you are. Pockets of fat in and around the face can be the most stubborn, seldom responding to diet or exercise efforts. Liposuction can be carefully applied to the facial region to remove these fat cells.*

Dr. Jennifer Harrington is a board-certified plastic surgeon who specializes in facial cosmetic surgery, including liposuction. She’ll take the time to discuss your goals and concerns with you before developing a personalized plan that best meets your needs.

Harrington + Associates Plastic Surgery has helped men and women from the Twin Cities metro area and across Minnesota with facial enhancement procedures. Contact us online or call our Plymouth office today at 651-290-7600 for more information about facial liposuction, including pricing.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Facial Liposuction?

Almost anyone who struggles with unwanted fat deposits on their face or neck can be a good candidate for face liposuction. Some of the most common reasons to consider getting facial lipo include:*

  • Submental fullness, or a double chin
  • Puffy cheeks
  • Lack of definition to the jawline or neck

Facial Liposuction Incisions

Just like the incisions for liposuction of the body, incisions required to sculpt the face are typically very small and discreet. Normally, one or more incisions are placed in and around the treatment area. Through these incisions, Dr. Harrington will insert a small tube-like device called a cannula, which will dispense a tumescent fluid before suctioning out unwanted fat cells.

Your Face Sculpting Procedure

Facial lipo is a same-day procedure performed under general anesthesia. The surgery itself can take as little as 1 hour or less and takes place at our accredited surgical facility. You should arrive at the surgery center 1 hour before your procedure start time and plan to stay for at least 1 hour after your procedure is finished. Patients who are put under general anesthesia will need to be driven home by a friend or family member, and arrange to have an adult stay with them for 24 hours after their surgery.

Depending on your individual needs, Dr. Harrington may recommend additional treatments. Double chin liposuction is often combined with a neck lift to remove excess skin or sagging jowls. Facial liposuction can also be included with a facelift to address signs of aging in the lower to mid face.

Face Liposuction Recovery

Most people who have facial liposuction take 1 to 2 weeks away from work and other normal activities to allow their swelling to subside and their bodies to heal.* Dr. Harrington may ask you to use bandages or a topical treatment over the incision locations to expedite the healing process.* Swelling and bruising should steadily decrease over the first couple of weeks, and you should keep your skin protected from direct sun exposure for at least 6 months after your procedure.*

While you may notice a difference in your facial contours immediately after your surgery, post-surgical swelling will initially obscure your final outcome.* You should be able to see your final face lipo results within 4 to 6 months of your procedure, although everyone’s body heals differently.*

It’s critical that you and Dr. Harrington discuss potential complications and risks associated with facial liposuction prior to your surgery. If you notice any sharp rises in pain or a sudden increase in swelling, notify our office immediately.
