Labia surgery, most often called labiaplasty is a vaginal reconstruction surgery designed to improve or reduce the size and shape of the outer or inner labia. Labiaplasty surgery can enhance the appearance of your vagina, reduce genital discomfort and increase sexual satisfaction.
Minneapolis plastic surgeon Dr. Jennifer Harrington is specially trained to perform labiaplasty surgery. She is one of the few board certified plastic surgeons in the Twin Cities to specialize in this important area of plastic surgery, and one of the only female plastic surgeons in the greater Midwest to offer this life-changing procedure.
Dr. Harrington will consult with you privately to determine if you are a good candidate for labiaplasty of the labia minora (the smaller inner vaginal lips), the labia majora (the larger, outer lips), or both.
Labiaplasty of the labia minora
Misshapen or enlarged labia minora can cause discomfort with clothing like swimsuits or exercise gear. It can also be a source of discomfort during intimacy.
A labiaplasty to address the labia minora typically corrects enlarged or uneven tissue that can sometimes be caused by hormonal changes, childbirth, or genetics. This surgery meticulously reshapes and reduces the uneven edges of the inner vaginal lips.
Labiaplasty of the labia majora
This type of labiaplasty surgery is performed for patients who have disproportionally large outer labia.
Large labia majora can be caused by childbirth, or estrogen stimulation. For patients who have lost a significant amount of weight and experienced a change in the size of shape of their labia majora, this surgery produces a dramatic improvement in appearance.
In addition, women who suffer from enlarged labia minora and/or labia majora may experience emotional distress, embarrassment and become extremely self-conscious over the aesthetics of their vagina.
Labiaplasty Surgery, Postoperative Care, and Recovery
Labiaplasty is an outpatient procedure performed at Dr. Harrington’s private, state-of-the-art surgical suite in Plymouth. This procedure has a short recovery time and rapid return to work and normal activity.
Dr. Harrington will inform you of preoperative preparations and postoperative recuperation in great detail prior to your surgery. During your one-on-one consultation with Dr. Harrington, you will be able to learn more about your vaginal rejuvenation treatment options and discuss the procedure and recovery time.
The specific risks and the suitability of labiaplasty surgery for a given individual can be determined only at the time of consultation at our Minneapolis plastic surgery office.
