Harrington Plastic Surgery has helped women and men from all over the Twin Cities area who want to benefit from some of the latest wellness technologies on the market. Emsella represents a significant advance in the ability to treat incontinence and is just one of the many wellness treatments we offer.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Emsella?

The best candidates for Emsella treatments are people in good general health who feel that they have a constant urge to urinate. In most cases, this sensation is due to weakened pelvic floor muscles. Strong pelvic floor muscles provide control over the bladder and bowel. Candidates may have developed weakened pelvic floor muscles after giving birth, going through menopause, or due to the natural aging process.

Your Emsella Treatment

Emsella treatments use electromagnetic waves to strengthen and rejuvenate the pelvic floor muscles and tissue while keeping the skin surface in the treatment area unaffected and unharmed. During your Emsella treatment, you will sit comfortably on a specially designed chair that emits electromagnetic energy, stimulating muscle contractions and restoring neuromuscular control.

We find that most patients benefit from a course of 6 total treatments over a 3 week period. Emsella treatments do not require anesthesia and our patients report feeling entirely comfortable throughout the treatment cycle.

Depending on your goals, we may suggest additional or alternative treatments. For instance, women struggling with oversized or uneven labia may be good candidates for labiaplasty. Those with noticeable fat pads over the pubic bone after weight changes or pregnancy may wish to include liposuction of the mons pubis. Many women choose to include pelvic floor tightening as part of their mommy makeover.

Emsella FAQs

How does Emsella work?

Emsella treatments work by stimulating your body’s pelvic floor muscles using electromagnetic waves. This controlled stimulation promotes muscle strengthening, resulting in better control over urination.

What can I expect during the treatment?

Emsella uses HIFEM® technology, electromagnetic waves that are administered via a specially designed chair that you sit on while the treatment takes place. These waves induce thousands of kegel-like pelvic floor muscle contractions in a single session to strengthen weak pelvic floor muscles, restoring neuromuscular control and improving urinary incontinence.

How many Emsella treatments will I need?

Typically, we recommend a total of 6 treatments over a 3 week timespan. We can tailor the treatment cycle to maximize your pelvic floor tightening as needed.

How long does an Emsella treatment take?

Emsella treatments are relatively quick and should only take about 30 minutes.

How effective are Emsella treatments?

In clinical studies, Emsella has been found to achieve a 64% improvement in urinary incontinence on average. Over half of patients reduce their need to use hygiene pads.

Does Emsella change anything about how my abdomen or groin area looks?

No, Emsella only affects the internal musculature of the pelvic floor. If you are hoping for a tightened look to your abdomen or genital area, talk with us more about your surgical and nonsurgical cosmetic options. One option is to pair EMSCULPT NEO for the abs with Emsella for a complete “core to the floor” treatment.
