miraDry®

Excessive sweating can lead to embarrassment and inconvenience on a day-to-day basis. The fear of sweat stains and body odor can leave you feeling anxious in social situations, and when a simple bike ride or brief walk leave you noticeably perspiring, it may seem easier to avoid exercise altogether. miraDry® is an FDA-cleared treatment for hyperhidrosis that targets and destroys sweat and odor glands in the underarms without surgery or downtime.

miradry logoBoard-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Jennifer Harrington understands how sensitive the topic of excessive sweating can be for men and women alike. During your consultation, she’ll listen to your concerns and explain further the benefits of miraDry and the results you can expect.

Harrington Plastic Surgery has helped men and women from throughout the Twin Cities metro area feel cleaner and more confident with miraDry.

Who Is a Good Candidate for miraDry?

Almost anyone who wishes to decrease their underarm sweat or odor can be a good candidate for miraDry treatments. The most common reasons men and women consider getting miraDry include:

  • Needing to change shirts multiple times throughout the day due to sweat stains
  • Showering more than once per day because you feel unclean
  • Persistent body odor
  • You wish to avoid deodorants containing aluminum or potentially harmful chemicals

Your miraDry Treatment

miraDry is a noninvasive treatment that uses a handheld device to apply electromagnetic energy directly to the sweat and odor glands in the underarms. The electromagnetic waves deliver a process called thermolysis, destroying sweat and odor glands without harming the surrounding skin or tissue.

Your miraDry treatment will be performed by our trained medical professionals. First, a local anesthetic will be applied to the underarms via injection to keep you as comfortable as possible during the procedure. Once the area is numb, the miraDry device will be passed over the underarm. A cooling technology in the handheld device helps protect the skin’s surface, and most people report feeling little to no discomfort during treatment.

miraDry Downtime

For the most part, you can expect to return to your normal routine as soon as your miraDry treatment is finished. However, you may experience temporary redness, soreness or swelling in the underarms, which should fade after about 1 week. Temporary tingling or numbness can also occur, typically resolving within 5 weeks. Dr. Harrington recommends applying cold compresses to the area to reduce swelling or soreness.

While some people are able to achieve their goals for sweat and odor reduction with only one miraDry treatment, others prefer to schedule 2 to 3 treatments spaced 3 months apart.
