Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is often utilized to produce a more youthful and rested appearance of the eyes. It is used to remove excess skin, fat and muscle from the upper and lower eyelids, reducing the presence of baggy, wrinkled skin and/or droopy eyelashes. Dr. Harrington, who performs a wide range of anti-aging facial rejuvenation procedures, specializes in a number of advanced eyelid surgery techniques. These procedures may be combined with brow/forehead lift for the most effective appearance-enhancing results. In some cases, upper eyelid surgery can be performed in Dr. Harrington's in-office surgery suite.
Blepharoplasty is also utilized to treat a medical condition known as "ptosis," or droopy eyelids. Ptosis is generally caused by poor muscle tone or nerve damage and can lead to impaired vision. In addition to being one of the most experienced and successful facial plastic surgeons in Minneapolis, Dr. Harrington is a renowned reconstructive surgeon who has helped numerous patients affected by ptosis restore both their vision ability and facial appearance.
How Do I Determine if Eyelid Surgery Is Right for Me?

Eyelid surgery can effectively eliminate signs of aging and can be performed in conjunction with brow lift, facelift or neck lift surgery for the best possible facial rejuvenation results.
Eyelid Surgery Postoperative Care and Recovery
Eyelid surgery is a fairly simple treatment. During the procedure, excess skin and unnecessary fatty tissue are removed through small, inconspicuous incisions, which are generally created along the natural creases of the upper and/or lower eyelids. Recovery time is generally one to two weeks, during which patients may experience some swelling, bruising and mild discomfort; however, most people will feel well enough to go out in public with a pair of sunglasses on within a few days. Dr. Harrington and her surgical team offer outstanding postoperative care and will provide you with detailed instructions as well as postoperative medications and bandages to aid the healing process. Full recovery is usually achieved within two to three weeks postoperatively.
